How much does a deck cost in Toronto?

• Height above grade — a deck more than 0.6 m up needs guards and, past 2.4 m, engineered footings.
• Footings: helical piles or sonotubes to below frost line drive a surprising share of the cost.
• Structure material — pressure-treated versus cedar versus composite roughly doubles the deck surface cost.
• Whether the permit also covers stairs, a roof, or a walkout — those inflate the declared value.
